Ta-da!

I had a few projects on my to-do list this week, so when a snowstorm rolled through and granted me a snow day I got really excited. Unfortunately, when I went to gather up my supplies I could not find my hot glue gun!

Really, what self-respecting crafter is ever without her glue gun!?

Instead of sipping hot chocolate, watching the snow and making delightful glue string and feathery messes, I ran around my house in a fruitless search for the stupid thing. Then I got bored and started watching Downton Abbey. (Alas, I continued to be bored as I watched..)

But today I visited my mom, and I found my trusty glue gun in a pile of my old craft supplies in the basement. This evening I was able to make these pretties..

The color on this is a little off.. imagine the purple slightly redder and the blue slightly greener and you've got it.

Now I want to make an Edwardian-style formal sun hat for my mom, but with simpler embellishments. Perhaps a felt flower or two, some ribbon or organza tied around it..

Things that are gorgeous.

1) This cake. Absolutely adore it. I want it. In my life. Can it be lemon?

Registry!

(Not really related, but I feel like every blog post needs a picture or else it's boring.)

Everyone loves the idea of grabbing a barcode scanner and zapping barcodes of everything in a really expensive store. It sounds cool, but when the subject of a wedding registry comes up I tend to draw a blank.

I cook a lot, so we have a pretty well-equipped kitchen. We don't have a ton of fine china or linen tablecloths, but I'm not sure we want any. Our house is equipped with secondhand, mismatched stuff and I like it that way.

What we don't have is a garage full of tools. So that gave me the idea to investigate creating a registry through Home Depot or something similar.

I found something kind of better..

You use a bookmarklet to grab items from any site online and it will add it to your registry. They even have an app that turns your smartphone into a handy-dandy barcode scanner that you can take anywhere!

I've been playing around with it, and I already added a couple things. If you know me/us personally, you can search using my name. To view it, the password is the name of our pet (in all lowercase letters.. should only take a couple tries to spell it right if you're not sure).

Wedding Weather Predictor

Now this is kind of hilarious.

Weather.com features a wedding weather predictor.

Another way to do the legal stuff..

Interesting idea from IntimateWeddings.com

"We didn’t want to hire a marriage commissioner to attend our ceremony, as we wanted to keep it as intimate as possible. Instead, we met the commissioner over a pancake breakfast the morning of our wedding, and she did the ‘legal’ portion for us with our witnesses. This left us able to dictate what was said at our ceremony, and who it was said by. Instead of our wedding words being directed by a stranger, the words were chosen by us, had meaning to us, and were said by someone we love and respect."

Why IntimateWeddings.com is awesome...

From the founder of IntimateWeddings.com

It feels like I could have written this.

“You want your hair to look special on your wedding day, don’t you?” said the hairstylist during a trial-run appointment. I caved. “Sure. Give me an up-do.” An hour and a half later the woman staring back in the mirror was no longer me. She wasn’t the kind of girl who wore plaid flannel pajamas. She didn’t have hangnails or enjoy frothy Guinness and warm slabs of steak. That girl wore satin. She ordered salad for lunch. She chewed slowly. She got manicures."

Whenever I get my hair done, the first thing I ever do once I'm out of the place is mess up my hair. Intentionally. I take my hands and muss up my hair, every single time without exception.

My favorite shoes are a pair of brown steel-toed boots, and I don't own heels. Makeup? Huh? I can't eat a salad without making a mess. (I can do hardly anything without making a mess.) I love flowers, but I love roadside weeds too. I'd rather have a vegetable garden than flower beds. My folder with wedding stuff on my computer is called "frilly frilly frou frou."

"I bought a book to help me plan our wedding, but the more I read, the more I realized just how much my version of the ideal wedding differed from the norm. I didn’t want five bridesmaids; one maid of honor suited me just fine. I didn’t want a garter toss. I didn’t want a DJ playing the Electric Slide. Sure, I wanted music, but my music would be live. And most of all, I didn’t want a big, fat guest list. I didn’t want to celebrate my wedding day with a group of strangers. Instead, I wanted everyone there to have touched our lives in a special way."

My thoughts exactly.

Today I did some things.

Did research on photographers. Found a couple good ones. Following up.

Set up meeting with a celebrant. Kind of excited about this.

Now, off to go order THE DRESS. oh my.

Scouting our location on Saturday.
(Note to self: Remember the surveyor's tape!)

Don't think we can afford her, (gotta cross the pond, you know) but I love her style.
